We
spent the first three years remodeling La Casa Sol, always trying to
remain loyal to the art and materials of the Andean culture. Our pottery
and woodworks are hand painted by artists from Cotopaxi, while the fabrics
and textiles are hand made by indigenous people from the communities of
Salasaca and Otavalo.
The colorful and warm touch of La Casa Sol is what
makes it so unique and why we are proud to open the doors and our hearts
to the public.
La Casa Sol is considered part of Quito's cultural
patrimony. Years ago it was a residential home in "La Mariscal" the most
popular neighborhood for wealthy families. Today, Mariscal is a modern
tourist center with a variety of restaurants, bars, shops, art galleries
and interesting streets and parkways full of colorful arts & crafts
markets. Mariscal is not only where the embassies and consulates have
their offices (US, France, Japan, Holland, Switzerland, Germany, and many
others), but also where you can find beautiful handcrafts, paintings,
carpets tapestries and sculptures made by talented local artists.
All of our rooms are centered around a planted
inner courtyard leading into the living area and cafe.
The living area has a small library and toe-toasting fireplace
where you can peruse our bookshelves for the latest information about
Ecuador or enjoy a game of chess and nightly fires.
Services:
La Cafeteria "El sol": Different
breews of coffe are served in our cafeteria, mild, medium and strong
scented for all tastes. No doubt you will enjoy the exquisite natural
juices, from exotic fruit from the Coastal Ecuador, Amazon and the Andes
Mountains. Our chef, Señora Lidia Nuñez , makes a unique combination of
cereal, granola and muslë; homemade mermelade and fruit compots. Don´t
forget to try our wines, always ready for a cheer!
