Española:
A beautiful island with a white sand beach and the amazing
Blowhole. High opportunities to find impressive colonies of
sea birds such as blue-footed boobies, masked boobies among other
species of fauna such as sea lions, marine iguanas, Galapagos
hawk, etc. This is the only breeding site for wave albatross.
Floreana: It is one of the few human
populated islands of the Archipelago. Characterized by small
volcanic cones, this island is inhabited by high-stepping pink
flamingos, and serves as a nesting site for marine turtles.
Seasonally, this island is visited by rays and sharks. The
unofficial 18th century post office has become a very unique site
of the visit, where travelers pick up and drop correspondence for
their loved-ones, in a sort of traditional ritual. Spectacular
underwater life makes snorkeling ideal, at the
Devil's Crown and Champion Islands.
North Seymour: There is abundant
life around the 1 1/4 km. visitor's path. On this island you can
find sea lions waddling on the beach, land iguanas, frigate birds
displaying their red pouches, colonies of blue-footed boobies,
swallow-tailed gulls, the bright yellow warbler, as well as fur
seals.
Isabela:
The largest island in the Archipelago. This island is formed by 5
active volcanoes. This island becomes an excellent site for
diving. We can find in this island the larges population of giant
tortoises, sea lions, flightless cormorant, frigate birds,
Galapagos hawk and Galapagos penguins, marine iguanas, marine
turtles, manta rays, hammerheads, eels, white-tipped sharks,
blue-footed and masked boobies.
San Cristobal: San Cristobal is home of
the Archipelago's capital, Puerto Baquerizo Moreno. From here, by
traveling north for an hour by boat, we can find the rocky and
tiny "Isla Lobos", which is the main sea lion and blue-footed
booby colonies site for visitors to San Cristobal. There is a 300
mts. visitors path. Also, "Punta Pitt" is located at the northern
edge of the island, and is home for one of the endemic species,
the lava lizard. Kicker Rock is a volcanic cinder formation, where
blue-footed and masked boobies can be found among frigates and
other seabird species.
Fernandina: The third larges island.
Because of its dark rocky shores and black sand beaches, has
become one of the most fascinating islands. This is one of the
newest and the most active islands as well. Here we can find
marine and land iguanas, pelicans, Galapagos penguins, fur seals,
sea lions and flightless cormorants. Regarding flora, beautiful
samples of pahohoe lava formations and mangroves, branchycereus
cactus.
Santiago:
A beautiful island where there is the chance to find seals,
blue-footed boobies, pelicans and a vast variety of sea birds.
James Bay has excellent snorkeling sites where moray eels, sharks
and octopus may be found. Behind the shoreline is Sugar Loaf
volcano, and on the path you can find lava lizards Darwin finches,
doves and the Galapagos hawk. |
