The highlight of Pasochoa is its protected cloud forest situated inside a collapsed volcanic crater. While hiking to this crater you will pass through dry lava flows, glacier lakes, Rumiñahui volcano (15.419 ft.) and Inca ruins on you way towards Cotopaxi National Park.

 

Day 1    

 

We leave Quito in the morning and arrive after a 1 ½ -hour drive at the Park Entrance. After setting up our tents and a small lunch we start exploring the forest on the various paths in the Park. We explore the different plants and hopefully get to see some of the many birds, which are populating this area.

 

Day 2

 

On this day we leave very early in the morning to reach the top of the crater rim at 4200m. The hike takes us first through the forest and then on through Paramo alongside the crater rim to the top. We reach the top after a tiring 6-hour hike. After lunch on top we return to our camp and prepare for our drive back to Quito, where we arrive late afternoon.
