Riobamba

Riobamba also known as Sultana de los Andes, Ciudad Bonita, Corazón de la Patria, Ciudad de las Primicia, is the capital of the province of Chimborazo. Surrounded by volcanoes and natural attractions that are part of this beautiful city.

Located at 2,754 meters above sea level, in the Sierra Central, on the slopes of the Chimborazo volcano, Riobamba is a city full of history and tradition, its landscapes, parks and streets, buildings and monuments, jealously guard its historical legacy.

Founded on August 15, 1534, by Diego de Almagro. It is the cradle of the Puruhá culture and the Duchicela dynasty, the descendants of Atahualpa. It was also the first Spanish city founded in Ecuador.

Its average temperature is 14 ° C. The highest temperatures recorded correspond to noon with 23 ° C.

Tourist attractions

Chimborazo Volcano

It is the closest point to the Sun in the world and the highest volcano in Ecuador, located 6,263 meters above sea level in the Inter-Andean region. It is considered an emblem in the Ecuadorian National Shield, same as symbolizing national unity.

Cathedral church

Considered as a symbol of Catholic religiosity, built in 1835 by the parish priest Dr. José M. Freile. Its facade is made of white calcareous stone with reliefs that reflect Aboriginal and Spanish values. Inside, it keeps vestiges of the Colonial Riobamba.

Colta lagoon

Located northwest of the province of Chimborazo, just 17 km from the city of Riobamba. It has a dimension of 2.5 km long by 1 km wide, inside there are various species of native birds.
