Church of La Compañia de Jesus

The Church of La Compañia de Jesus is a jewel in the Historic Center of Quito and the most representative and important baroque temple in Latin America.

Its construction began in 1605 by the Jesuits and took 160 years to complete. For their construction they used materials such as stone, brick and plaster. The interior of the Society of Jesus was raised by the hands of countless artists from the Escuela Quiteña, who perpetuated their ability to carve and gild fine gold plates throughout the temple.

The facade of the church is of volcanic origin, each space is finely carved with the smallest detail; Thus we find flowers, angels, archangels and ecclesiastical symbols.

The Compañia de Jesus is considered one of the most important expressions of baroque architecture, when visiting its interior, it is easy to understand why it is the church most visited by tourists and an invaluable heritage in Quito.
