Its full name is Villa de San Miguel de Ibarra, capital of the province of Imbabura, due to its enormous Hispanic and Portuguese wealth, the city has been considered since 2008 as Historical and Colonial Heritage of Ecuador.
Ibarra is located in the Andean region to the north of Ecuador, it is a city with more than four hundred years of history, it has a dry temperate climate and an average temperature of 18 ° C.
It is also known as the White City, for being a Villa of the Spanish, it still preserves its buildings and colonial appearance. Surrounded by hills and natural viewpoints, the Yahuarcocha lagoon has 257 hectares with a navigable perimeter of 7,970 meters, and a maximum depth of 8 meters. It is also known as the Laguna de Sangre (Blood Lagoon), so called because it is believed that many years ago a bloody battle took place at the site between the Incas and the Caranquis.

The Freedom train leaves from the railway station in the city of Ibarra bound for the parish of Salinas, the route descends from the temperate zone of 2,225 masl to the warm valley of 1,600 masl, land of artisans, lakes and legends.
