Ibarra

Its full name is Villa de San Miguel de Ibarra, capital of the province of Imbabura, due to its enormous Hispanic and Portuguese wealth, the city has been considered since 2008 as Historical and Colonial Heritage of Ecuador.

Ibarra is located in the Andean region to the north of Ecuador, it is a city with more than four hundred years of history, it has a dry temperate climate and an average temperature of 18 ° C.

It is also known as the White City, for being a Villa of the Spanish, it still preserves its buildings and colonial appearance. It is highly visited by national and foreign tourists as a place of rest, landscaping, culture and history. It has innumerable historical sites that keep memories of the past in each corner and where harmoniously combines the colonial with the modern.

Basílica de Nuestra Señora de La Merced

Built at the end of the 19th century, it is in a neoclassical and Renaissance style, its altar is covered in gold leaf and inside it keeps valuable pictorial works of saints, virgins and paintings reminiscent of the reconstruction of the city.

Yahuarcocha lagoon

Surrounded by hills and natural viewpoints, the Yahuarcocha lagoon has 257 hectares with a navigable perimeter of 7,970 meters, and a maximum depth of 8 meters. It is also known as the Laguna de Sangre (Blood Lagoon), so called because it is believed that many years ago a bloody battle took place at the site between the Incas and the Caranquis.

Chota Valley

Located between the limits of Imbabura and Carchi, the Chota Valley has several tourist attractions and its people maintain ancestral customs that attract national and foreign tourists. Also known as the African corner of Ecuador.

Libertad Train

The Freedom train leaves from the railway station in the city of Ibarra bound for the parish of Salinas, the route descends from the temperate zone of 2,225 masl to the warm valley of 1,600 masl, land of artisans, lakes and legends.
