Carmen Alto Museum

The Carmen Alto Museum is located in the Historic Center of Quito, it is a metropolitan space belonging to the City Museums Foundation. It opened its doors to the public on December 5, 2013, to show its visitors art, history and spirituality that describe the life of Quito in the Spanish colony.

Its construction dating from 1653, the Museo del Carmen Alto is also known as Casa de Mariana de Jesús, it is guarded for more than 360 years by the Discalced Carmelite sisters.

The museum keeps a fascinating history among the walls, art, patios and gardens of the place. Here the invaluable wealth that the monastery has jealously guarded for centuries is exposed.

In addition, visitors can currently purchase products such as honey, wine, herbs and natural medicines that are made by the Discalced Carmelite sisters.
