Middle of the World Quitsato Cayambe - Ruales Oleas Refuge

Itinerary

Ready for a day of adventure, our tour guide will pick you up at your place of preference, we will take the road that leads to the town of Cayambe.

Our first stop will be the monument to the Middle of the World Quitsato, the same one that is shown as a giant solar clock, 54 meters in diameter and ten meters high, which is located exactly in the parallel 0.

We will continue our trip and stop in the village, change vehicles to board a 4x4 truck, we will take the route known as Piedmont, a dirt road, during the journey we will observe green mountains, birds in flight, animals typical of the area and its wonderful people, who come together to show us the best of the Andean landscape.

Along the way we will see several times the imposing figure of the Cayambe volcano and after approximately 40 minutes of travel and if time permits we will arrive in the vehicle until the Refugio Ruales Oleas, at 4600 masl.

From here we have two options, go to the Solitary Lagoon or get to the glaciers of the Volcano, the first route requires a little more physical effort and is ideal for those who like mountaineering, our guide will be happy to indicate the one that best suits your requirements, in both cases we will have a spectacular view, and without a doubt we will enjoy fabulous moments on the snow.

After enjoying fabulous moments we will return to Quito.

 

What to bring?

Camera, comfortable walking shoes, warm clothing (preferably waterproof), hat, scarf, gloves, glasses, sunscreen.
