Limpiopungo Lagoon - José Rivas Refuge

Itinerary

In the morning our tour guide will pick you up at your hotel, to head towards one of the highest volcanoes in Ecuador, the Cotopaxi, colossus that with its 5.897 m.a.s.l., is the second highest in the country and one of the highest active volcanoes of the world.

After approximately an hour and a half of trip, we will access its skirts, a place that allows a spectacular view of this imposing volcano, we immediately enter the Cotopaxi National Park, place from which we will have the opportunity to observe some species of endemic animals in the area, that there they have their permanent home.

We will visit the Museum of the site and later we will arrive to the Limpiopungo Lagoon, in whose waters the figure of the volcano is reflected, ideal moment for a photographic session.

Continuing with our walk, we will arrive to the parking lot of the volcano, after a walk of approximately 50 minutes, we will reach the First Refuge, called José Rivas, where with luck we will be able to be in contact with the snow, we will know the interior of the refuge in where you can taste a delicious hot chocolate ..

At the end of the afternoon, we will return to the city of Quito.

 

What to bring?

Camera, comfortable walking shoes, warm clothing (preferably waterproof), hat, scarf, gloves, glasses, sunscreen.
